What is a Federal Contractor?
A federal security contractor is a private security company hired by the U.S. Government to provide professional security services at federal buildings and other government facilities.
The security officers working for these companies are employees of the private contractor—not direct federal employees—but they perform an important public safety and security mission under a federal contract.

Federal Contract Security Officers may:

🏛️ WHO OVERSEES THESE CONTRACTS?
One of the most common arrangements involves the Federal Protective Service (FPS), which is part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). FPS uses contracted Protective Security Officers to help protect federally owned and leased facilities.
Federal security contracts can also support facilities connected with other federal departments and agencies, depending on the location and contract.

Federal Contract Security Officer ≠ Federal Employee
The officer works for a private security company that has been awarded a government contract to provide security services.
The contractor may change when a new company wins the contract, while the federal government’s need for qualified security officers at the facility continues.
