Court Security Officers better known as CSO’s patrols courthouse to provide security, escorts’ defendants to and from the courtroom, stands guard during court proceedings and checks courtroom for security.
Assignments include not only the monitoring of entrances to the court but also attention to the special needs of the court system, particularly in the area of personal protection for the judges, jurors, witnesses, attorneys and other persons involved with the court, including the general public.
Duties require specialized training in methods and techniques for protecting security areas. Is required to demonstrate continuing physical fitness and proficiency with firearms or other special weapons.
The majority of Court Security Officers (CSO’s) were at one time or another former police officers who have since retired.
