Victory for Justice

In a powerful affirmation of fairness and workers’ rights, the International Union, Security, Police and Fire Professionals of America (SPFPA) and its proud members of Local 1955 at Disneyland have scored a major victory in grievance arbitration. This landmark decision comes after a cast member was wrongfully terminated — and now, justice has been served.

After a thorough arbitration hearing, the arbitrator issued a decisive ruling: the Company failed to meet its burden of proving just cause for the termination. As a result, the grievant’s discharge has been overturned, her discipline reduced to a written warning, and her employment record will be cleansed of any reference to the termination.

But this win goes far beyond a technical ruling. The arbitrator ordered the Company to reinstate the cast member to her previous position, ensuring she can return to doing the job she loves. Even more, the Company is required to make her whole for her losses — an estimated $36,000 in back pay, less any mitigated earnings and required withholdings.

This arbitration award underscores the strength, leadership and experience of the International and its Local Union 1955 standing firm, fighting smart, and never giving up on our members. Our commitment to fairness, due process, and justice prevailed.

To our brothers and sisters at Local 1955: congratulations on your outstanding representation and unwavering dedication. To our reinstated member: welcome back. Your courage and perseverance inspires us all.

Together, we are stronger. Together, we win.
