Outstanding SPFPA National Security Summit

The SPFPA hosted its National Security Summit at the beautiful Troy Marriott with over 220 attendees. The two-day program “Captured the Moment” with a special Leadership presentation by President Hickey, and Motivated the “Thankful” in You with Keynote Speaker Bill Pace from Walt Disney World. Dwight Duley, International Secretary Treasurer, presented a Finance Report and “Advice that Makes Cents” about saving money and fiduciary responsibility. Laura Haynes, CPA, and Kari Kriebel, SPFPA Bookkeeper, assisted with important finance information every Local should know. Special speakers included Eugene McConville, President Emeritus and Howard Johannssen, FRSPU, who recently voted to merge his members into our great Union. Rich Dods, Rodney Kim and Vernon Kaahanui proudly announced their merger bringing over 1,000 Airport Security Officers throughout the Hawaiian Islands into the SPFPA Family. SPFPA Trust Attorney, Scott Brooks, provided a “Benefits Update”, along with SPFPA Benefits representatives from Humanomics, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana and Action Pharmaceuticals to assist members and answer questions. General Counsel, Gordon Gregory, gave an in-depth presentation and workshop on “Grievance Handling”, and Attorney Jim Moore, educated attendees about “The Role of Local Unions in Arbitration and Unfair Labor Practice Charges. Jim Statham, Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services, talked about “Communication is Key” to winning. Overall, it was a fantastic two days spent with our amazing members in solidarity to learn and network to service their Local members and each other.
